Work one-on-one, in the community with individuals who are aging, those who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs), and those who are in recovery.

Provide in-home support for older adults

Work with individuals who are aging, providing care that allows them to stay safe and healthy at home, and live as independently as possible. You’ll assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including dressing, bathing, housework, meal preparation, and grocery shopping. You might also provide transportation to appointments, activities and events, to help them maintain their sense of belonging and connection to the community.

Provide support to individuals with disabilities

Work with individuals who are living with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs), Brain Injuries, Autism, and other conditions. Support them in developing and maintaining the daily living skills necessary to remain healthy, safe, and as independent as possible at home, on the job, and in the community. This may include assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and household tasks, like grocery shopping and meal preparation. You can help them build fulfilling careers, working with them to develop natural support on the job to help them thrive in the workplace, and reach their personal goals.

Look for roles such as Direct Support Professional, Job Coach, Work Support Professional, Employment Specialist, or Career Planning Specialist.

Support individuals who are impacted by addiction

Use your lived experience to support individuals who want to start or sustain recovery as a Peer Support Specialist or a Recovery Coach. Work one-on-one with individuals in their homes and in the community, helping them find support services and develop positive strategies to thrive.
